Here are some ways that you can change your mindset for retirement:
Get the best information you can.
Talk to as many people as possible who have something of value to offer you on retirement education. (And thank you for reading this book, by the way!) This could include psychologists, financial advisors, career specialists, doctors—in fact, anyone who has expertise in the areas we discuss in this book.
Model yourself on other successful people who have a skill that you would like.
This could include friends who seem to have the ability to make things happen or others who may be good at making friends. You also want to look at other successful retirees to see what they are doing and how they look at their retirement.
Look at your beliefs and decide if they will limit you in retirement or not.
In this book we offer you some thoughts on what the best practices might be for retirees based on how they see the world. We also give you plenty of opportunities to examine your beliefs, and how you frame your life and your attitudes.
Shape your visions of this next phase of life!
Decide on the goals that you want to achieve and then list the positives and negatives that come from the way that you view the world. Change your limiting beliefs by creating a goal and a plan to achieve the goal.
Believe in yourself.
Hear you own voice (to quote noted motivator Stephen Covey). It is easy to listen to everyone else and then make a decision on what you want to do. Trust yourself. Take in wisdom from elsewhere but be discerning about the input you get. You have control!
